About Robert Hagan

Robert Hagan was born and grew up in a small fishing village on the lush, langorous, sub tropical north-east coast of Australia, close to the romantically named Byron Bay. After earning a degree in economics and a diploma in education at Newcastle University, north of Sydney, he began a secure career as a teacher at one of Sydney’s most prestigious high schools. But after just one year he suddenly resigned from the tutorial staff and announced that he intended to become an artist.
“It’s been my secret lifelong dream,” he told the stunned school Principal.
The minor detail that he had never had an art lesson in his life didn’t seem to bother Hagan. He just decided that he would somehow teach himself to paint by trial and error. Choosing the images he wanted to capture presented no problem because he had always wanted to set out on a self discovery tour of his own vast and fascinating country. So at just 22 he slipped a sketchbook into his backpack and then started hitch hiking. Over the next three years he criss-crossed Australia’s enormous land mass, working at any kind of job he could find to pay his way. At times he worked as a jackaroo (Australian for junior ranch hand), sheep shearer, outback railway line repairer and even tried his hand working on a gold mine at Kalgoorlie in the searing heat of the Nullabor Plain.
When he finally quit his outback wanderings he held his first one man exhibition of outback scenes in Sydney .It was hugely successful and his career as a professional artist was up and running.
Today Robert Hagan is a globe-trotting artist whose paintings adorn the halls of royal palaces in the UK and Europe and the walls of corporate boardrooms all around the world. He has just embarked on his first television series, SPLASH OF COLOR, an artist’s view of some of the world’s most exciting art subject locations.
